This workshop will introduce students to the skills, tools and design considerations involved in the tapestry process, with the intent of providing a knowledge base that will assist in the development of technical skills and individ
ual design concepts. Hands on projects will provide the opportunity to experiment with techniques, colour and texture. The diversity and potential of Contemporary Tapestry will be explored through illustrated presentations, discussion and question and answer sessions.

Jane Kidd is an internationally recognized tapestry weaver. She was on the faculty of the Alberta College of Art and Design for 34 years. She currently lives on Salt Spring Island in B.C. were she maintains an active studio practice. Her tapestries have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, The United States, Japan, Poland, Hungary and Australia and she has lectured extensively on her own work, contemporary tapestry and the value of disciplinary knowledge. She was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2001 and was awarded the Alberta Craft Council Award of Excellence in 2008.
